The wine samples (50ml bottles) will include the same as an in-person course with the exception of sparkling wines. these will be sent to you via Express Post, a few days before the course begins.
Course Duration: This qualification has a minimum requirement of six hours of guided study time with a 45-minute closed-book multiple-choice exam. No study outside of this is required.
Course Description
The WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines prepares students for an entry-level job in hospitality or retail. This course is designed for people who serve or sell wine in restaurants, hotels, bars and bottle shops.
It covers basic product knowledge and skills about wines and how to sell them. Your professional skills in sales and your knowledge of wines will be improved. This will increase your ability to assist your customers and improve wine sales for your employer.
On successful completion, you will be issued with an internationally recognised certificate: Level 1 Award in Wines from the globally acclaimed, UK based, Wine and Spirit Education Trust.
Online Courses:
At Bacchus Academy, we offer a variety of online wine and spirit education courses to make learning more accessible and enjoyable no matter where you are! With our engaging and knowledgeable instructors, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence to explore the fascinating world of wine and spirits.
Our online courses are different to other ‘online courses’ advertised. Our classes are run exactly the same as normal classes but using Zoom. You will be studying with a live teacher with wine tasting included (the wines are bottled into 50ml bottles and sent to you in the mail by Express Post).
The sessions are recorded allowing you to revisit any session when you would like. Supplementary material (exercises and practise exams) are available to all our online students.
Online Exam
This course is ALL online. To complete the exam online, you will need a webcam, smartphone, good internet connection and suitable space.
If this is not possible, you are welcome to do an in-person exam with any of our in-person courses.

WSET® Level 1 examination:
Complete the programme of training and successfully complete:
- a multiple choice paper of 30 questions
- a portfolio of tasting notes.
- a total mark of 70% is required to achieve a pass.
