This course is 100% online. The study material is in the form of an e-book. There are no wine samples included in this course.
Course Duration: This qualification has a minimum requirement of 28 hours of study time; including 16 hours of guided study time with a 1-hour closed book multiple choice examination.
Course Description
The program has been designed to provide vocational training in product knowledge for those employed in the drinks industry with little knowledge of the broad range of international alcoholic beverages. It is ideal for those seeking a good level of product knowledge, job skills and competencies in handling international wines and spirits. The program is also appropriate for those not employed in the drinks industry but who wish to expand their knowledge of international wines.
Those obtaining the WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines will be able to interpret the labels of the major wines of the world and give basic guidance on appropriate selection and service, as well as understand the principles of wine tasting and evaluation.
Online Exam
At Bacchus Academy, we offer a variety of online wine and spirit education courses to make learning more accessible and enjoyable no matter where you are! With our engaging and knowledgeable instructors, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence to explore the fascinating world of wine and spirits.
Our online courses are different to other ‘online courses’ advertised. Our classes are run exactly the same as normal classes but using Zoom. You will be studying with a live teacher with wine tasting included (the wines are bottled into 50ml bottles and sent to you in the mail by Express Post).
The sessions are recorded allowing you to revisit any session when you would like. Supplementary material (exercises and practise exams) are available to all our online students.
Online Exam
This course is ALL online. To complete the exam online, you will need a webcam, smartphone, good internet connection and suitable space.
If this is not possible, you are welcome to do an in-person exam with any of our in-person courses.

Key goals
- To improve the wine knowledge of the candidate such that the candidate can converse with customers about the basic elements of wine and can better assist the customer with wine selection.
- To gain an understanding of the key elements in matching food with wine.
- To improve sales skills of the candidate in all areas of wine sales including restaurant, hotel, bar and bottle shop.
Content
- Factors that influence the main styles of wine
- Characteristics of the principal grape varieties
- Key labeling terms on a bottle to deduce the style and flavours of wines made in key regions and from the regions principal grape variety
- Principles of food & wine matching in relation to the wine styles being tasted and discussed
- WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting to produce descriptions of wines
- Information and advice on the correct storage and service of wines
- Participation in a one-hour multiple choice examination is required in the final session.
Study Hours and Examination:
This course is self paced, therefore there are no set hours. The online modules should be followed in sequential order over five weeks window. The course material should take about six hours per week, not including the exam and revision.
The online exam is one hour, and will be booked with WSET after registering.
