The WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines explores the wines of the world and includes a wine tasting in each class.
The program has been designed to provide vocational training in product knowledge for those employed in the drinks industry with little knowledge of the broad range of international alcoholic beverages. It is ideal for those seeking a good level of product knowledge, job skills, and competencies in handling international wines and spirits. The program is also appropriate for those not employed in the drinks industry but who wish to expand their knowledge of international wines.
Those obtaining the WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines will be able to interpret the labels of the major wines of the world and give basic guidance on appropriate selection and service, as well as understand the principles of wine tasting and evaluation.
This qualification is intended for beginners with a interest or basic understanding of wine. It’s perfect for those who are seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines, but Level 1 Award in Wines is not a prerequisite. You will learn:
– How to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®(SAT)
– How environmental factors, grape-growing, winemaking and maturation options influence the style and quality of wines made from eight principal grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio/Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah/Shiraz
– The style and quality of wines made from 22 regionally important grape varieties and produced in over 70 geographical indications (GIs) around the world
– How grape varieties and winemaking processes influence key styles of sparkling wines & fortified wines
– Key labelling terms used to indicate origin, style and quality
– Principles and processes involved in the storage and service of wine
– Principles of food and wine pairing
Course Duration: This qualification has a minimum requirement of 28 hours of study time, including 16 hours of guided study time with a 1-hour closed book multiple choice examination.

Which level should I do?
Level 1 Award in Wines: For industry beginners or those who want to be able to read a wine list.
Level 2 Award in Wines: Learn about different growing conditions around the world and learn how to taste and describe them.
Level 3 Award in Wines: An advanced course. You will need to have completed WSET Level 2 Award in wine (or have equivalent knowledge).
