Bacchus Academy teaches Level 1 & 2 Award in Beer, Level 1 – 3 Awards in Wines.

Which Course is Right for Me?

Level 1 Award in Wines

Level 1 Award in Wines is the perfect place for someone starting out in the drinks or hospitality industry. It is also a great way to educate yourself as a wine drinker and learn how to pronounce the most popular wine grapes and understand basic wine and food pairing. This course is just 6 hours long and can be completed in a single day.

This course aims to provide the basic product knowledge and skills in the service and retail of wine to prepare a person for their first job in hospitality or retail. It is also perfect for those who are interested in wine, would like to be able to read a wine list or would like to know the basics of wine and food pairing

Level 2 Award in Wines

Level 2 Award in Wines dives deeper into wine varieies from around the world. It also focuses on wine vernacular and give you the language to be able to discibe wines flavours and articulate what you like or don’t like about wine. It is also a larger time commitment with a minimum of 28 hours study time. Bacchus Academy ususally runs this class in three full day classes.

It is not necessary to have completed Level 1 Award in Wines before attempting Level 2. However, there will be some assumed prior knowledge: Take the WSET quiz here to test your knowledge

Through a combination of tasting and theory, you’ll explore the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe these wines with confidence. For beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of wines or those seeking to build on knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.

Level 3 Award in Wines

Level 3 Award in Wines is an advanced course. It requires at least 84 hours of study – 30 of those hours will be in class. You will cover over 100 different grape varieties and over 150 wine regions. We do not recommend attempting this course unless the student has completed Level 2 Award in Wines as you will need the language, the palette and an understanding of WSET’s Systematic Approach to Tasting – However, exceptions can be made for prior work or study experience. An advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry and for wine enthusiasts. For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and winemaking. It is generally advised that a student has completed WSET Level 2 before attempting Level 3.

Level 1 Award in Beer

Level 1 Award in Beer is a beginner course. It is a six-hour course to be completed in one day with no outside study required. one-day course.

You will learn the foundations of beer production, styles, service, food pairing and tasting.

Pitched at beginner and intermediate level this course will provide product knowledge and beer tasting skills for both beer enthusiasts and those working in the beer or hospitality industries.

Level 2 Award in Beer

Level 2 Award in Beer is an intermediate course. It does not require any previous study but is very in-depth.  It requires at least 28 hours of study – 16 of those hours will be in class with 11 hours of private study. You will learn how beer is produced, processed, stored and served. You will learn the characteristics over over 60 different beer styles including speciality beer and how production influences taste, smell and appearance.
